Privacy Statement

I collect the standard web server logging material for my own amusement. I have no intention of doing anything particularly objectionable with this information. I'm not going to sell these logs (as if anyone wanted to buy them), nor release such information en masse. That said, I think it's entirely apropriate for me to know who comes to my web site, and also apropriate for me to tell other people what I know. If this bothers you, drop me a line and I'll be happy to talk about it. Or just don't read my pages.

This site is hosted by Hurricane Electric. As such, I don't have direct access to the Apache logs. Therefore, I have an "invisible image" CGI script which serves up a 1-pixel transparent gif, and logs visits to an SQL database. This records only the same information as is generally available from web server logs. The URL for this script is http://acorn.he.net/cgi-bin/suid/~eanderso/hitcounter.gif.

Another consequence of the fact that my pages are stored on someone else's server is that I don't know or control what information they log, or what they do with it. Anyway, nothing I just told you should really be any suprise, but I just wanted to make sure that it doesn't look like I'm trying to slip anything shady by with the hitcounter CGI.
