I'm currently working on software-defined radio with Dr. Dirk Grunwald, and secure sensor network localization with Dr. Rick Han's MANTIS group.
In addition to "pure" computer science, I'm also working with the Center for Science and Technology Research on computing policy issues. At the moment, I'm especially interested in the safety of electronic voting, and the non-monetary costs of network monitoring and filtering.
From 2002 to 2004, I was a computer science Ph.D. student at the University of Oregon. I had the distinct privilege of working with Dr. Jun Li, the Network Security Research Lab and the Network Research Group on problems related to application-layer security in distributed systems. At the moment that seems to mean the detection of and defense against new Internet worms, and languages and mechanisms for defining and enforcing security requirements for object replication in peer-to-peer systems.
Other areas in which I've been dabbling include "anomaly detection" for inter-AS routing, topologically-aware resilient overlay network construction, trust and reputation management in open distributed systems and network architectures for decentralized administration. I'm interested in, but not actively researching, graph theory, statistical machine learning, logics and automated reasoning, and efficient constraint satisfaction for the above.
I was formerly working on David Meyer's Oregon Route Views project. In a previous life I wrote software for air traffic control systems and this has left me with a vague interest in fault-tolerance for distributed systems, programming language and operating system support for real-time processing, and program verification. I have no research plans in any of these directions, but one never knows...

- Using Numerical Python and Gnuplot.py to analyze and graph large-ish data result sets: graphing.py This is totally uncommented and specific to the data formats I was working with, but it includes tolerably efficient code for command-line handling, checkpointing long computations, filtering out partial results, extracting percentiles from raw results, and graph generation. A couple of people have asked me to post it, so maybe it'll be useful to someone.
